I went to the @Large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz yesterday. If you can’t get to the exhibit (ends Sun, April 26), check out the site.

All of the work made my heart (and mind – good combo) race. The enormous 5 paneled gallery of imprisoned/exiled truth tellers created with tiny lego pieces and presented on the ground was stunning on a variety of levels. And you can literally see it on a variety of levels.

Prompted by my partner in crime’s comment that these courageous people are just the tip of the iceberg – the ‘known’ activists – I began to write about small connective pieces and wrote GENES. My short research attempt in this area proved just slightly overwhelming but provided great visuals.

One of the first things you see on Alcatraz Island is black spiral staircase that leads up to a guard tower. It is one of many spiral staircases one will see.

My overall take away from @Large was a rad reaffirmation of what I already know. We can change. We can take action. We are all in this together.

Welcome to 99 Days of Courage 2015.
