Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
The Hurricane Matthew death toll in Haiti has risen to 842. Across the country, some 15,000 have been displaced and 350,000 more are in need of assistance.
Haiti is still recovering from an earthquake in January 2010 that left more than 300,000 people dead and twice as many displaced. A cholera epidemic, introduced by UN peacekeepers, persists and has claimed more than 9,200 lives.
